9 Things to Ask Your Contractor Before Hiring
The Problem With Hiring
Hiring a contractor is a big decision. They’re effectively the people who will work on your home or business, and you need to make sure that they’ll do a good job. You don’t want to end up with leaky pipes or a broken furnace in the middle of winter! The problem is, how do you go about choosing who to hire? How do you know how qualified they are? Are they even going to show up on time (or at all)? To help you with this decision, here are 9 things to ask your contractor before hiring.
TIP: Print this list and take it with you. Many contractors, including Tungsten Builders, will be able to answer these questions off the top of their heads.
The List of Questions
1. How long have you been in business?
2. Do you have a business license and general liability insurance?
3. Where do your employees complete their training before working on my home or business?
4. What type of tools do your workers use? Are they safe for my home or business?
5. Do you subcontract any of your work? If so, who, and where are they located?
6. What is your policy regarding sub-contractor’s payment terms? (If they pay late how often does that happen?)
7. Can I speak to two or three references from jobs similar to mine that have been recently completed by you or your company?
8. How do I get in touch with them? (Ask for phone numbers or email addresses)
9. Are you licensed and insured for the service being provided (i.e., plumbing, electrical, remodeling)
Conclusion
All in all, it’s a good idea to ask these questions if you’re planning on using a contractor for your commercial or residential construction project. That way, you won’t have to worry about anything during the time they take to complete the job. After all, there’s no reason why you should be stressed out or nervous when there are professionals working for you!
